Why are you leaving your current role?

This question is generally used to help the interviewer to understand you and your position, and what you’re hoping for in your next career move, they will want to make sure that you’re moving on for the right reasons, and that you’re aiming to be with them for the long haul. It’s a common mistake to speak negatively about your previous employer but try to put a positive spin on any of those more negative feelings you may have.

An example could be –

I enjoyed my time with my previous company, but I found that I outgrew the role and the opportunities to progress were limited. I believe this job role and the company align with my skills and could help me to advance my career.

Tell me about yourself?

This is always a tricky one, but essentially what the interviewer is looking for is a short summary about you, tying this into your work experience as well. If you want to throw in a few interesting facts about yourself, that’s great to show your personality, team fit is everything but try not to ramble!

An example could be –

I am an experienced HR professional with a passion for supporting people in my personal and professional life. I love to lead and develop people which is why I would now like to progress and develop into more of a senior position.

What is your biggest weakness?

The interviewer wants to see that you are self-aware and able to improve on any weaknesses you might have, try to put a positive spin on this. It’s key that you prepare for a question like this, as it almost always gets asked!

An example could be –

I am a perfectionist; I always do everything to the best of my ability and am hard on myself when things aren’t 100% perfect. I know it is a weakness because it can mean I spend a long time trying to perfect tasks, but I will always ensure I meet my deadlines and if needed share the workload with a colleague of a manager.

Why do you want to work for us?
